ASWA, Africa Sex Workers Association

ASWA is the Pan African alliance of sex worker-led organisations that exists to strengthen the voices, to empower and to advocate for and advance the health and human rights of female, male and transgender sex workers including those living with HIV and those who use or inject drugs through networking, movement building, and the development of partnerships.

Currently, we have over 85 member organisations in 23 countries with our secretariat based in Nairobi, Kenya. Of these, 70 are female sex worker-led, while 10 are male sex worker-led, and 5 are trans-led.

ASWA seeks to create a conducive environment of partnerships that enable sex workers to address the complexities, dynamics and diversities within the sex work industry. We support sex workers self-organisation and movement strengthening.

Nai Nami, offers an inspirational experience of Nairobi Downtown

Nai Nami in Kiswahili means “Nairobi with me”. They offer an inspirational “off-the-beaten-track” experience of Nairobi Downtown, guided by youth from slums who raised themselves in the streets.

Exchange with your guides and learn from their street skills, which they gained during their daily struggles. Ask all your questions, get the real insights into their way of life and get inspired and captivated by their life stories and ghetto-energy.

They provide formal job opportunities for unemployed youth from slums, who dropped out of school and therefore do not have access to the formal job market. We leverage their energy and street skills as tour guides in order to earn a regular income. The exchange with the clients will expose youth to some guidance and inspiration in life.

Mudita Moveis, sustainable design furniture

Produce and sell sustainable design furniture using discarded materials as pallet wood and hydrant hose. Our reason to be is to create purpose and adicional income to low income people. For that reason we have a fair trade production chain that uses cooperatives and social businesses as vendors, and low income unemployed mothers as the furniture assemblers, who do each furniture with love and care each piece handmade.
